A $1.9 million federal stimulus grant to retro-fit Greenville schools with energy-saving equipment will pay for itself in about two years.
“In addition to installing such things as cooling towers, heat recovery systems and more efficient lighting, the money is paying the salary of two energy managers, whose job is to go through the schools at night and on weekends and find waste.
They have already found $500,000 in squandered energy in the four months they have been on the job – more than covering the cost of their salaries, according to Bryan Morris, the district’s facilities director.”
